To help reduce panhandling in Richmond County, the Augusta, Georgia government has teamed up with Chatham Savannah Authority for the Homeless to launch the Give Change that Counts initiative in Richmond County.

Give Change that Counts is a public education and awareness campaign developed by the Chatham Savannah Authority for the Homeless in 2021 that encourages community members, tourists, and others to support local resources to reduce the need for panhandling. In 2023, Augusta, Georgia began collaborating with the Chatham Savannah Authority for the Homeless to launch the initiative in Richmond County in an effort to decrease panhandling in our community and increase support for local nonprofits who provide support to homeless individuals and panhandlers.

While panhandling is not illegal, there are more meaningful ways to support people in need. When you support this initiative, you join our efforts to help make Richmond County a great place to live, work and play.

Instead of giving spare change to a nearby panhandler, support local nonprofits to give meaningful change that can make a lasting difference in someone's life. By doing so, you can truly give change that counts.
