On June 6, 2023, the Augusta, Georgia Commission approved a Community Cat Ordinance amendment. The goal of the Community Cat amendment is to reduce the number of cats that come into the shelter which will ultimately reduce the number of cats that have to be euthanized.
As a result, beginning on August 1, 2023, Augusta Animal Services will no longer set traps for or accept the public intake of stray cats unless they are sick, injured, or require quarantine due to a bite or scratch to a human. If you are having an issue with a stray cat or just want to know how to become a participant in the Community Cat Program, please contact the
Humane Society of Northeast Georgia (HSNEGA) at 470-824-7783 or by email at [email protected].
