Being active makes you happy!
Are you looking to enhance your mood? Or do you want to let off some steam after a busy day? A visit to the gym, a run in the park, or a round of tennis can help with that. Physical activity stimulates different parts of the brain that make you happier, more relaxed, and less anxious. Try it out and see for yourself and you will see that you feel happier after the next workout!
Exercise is fun… and can be social!
Exercise and physical activity can be fun. They give you the opportunity to relax, enjoy the outdoors, or just take part in activities that make you happy. Exercising can also help to connect with friends and family in a fun environment. Whether you go for a hike, participate in a dance class or join a football team, you might find a sport you enjoy. Are you bored? Try something new or do something with (new) friends.
Physical activity increases your energy!
Regular physical activity will make you stronger and increase your endurance. Exercise supplies your tissue with oxygen and nutrients and helps your cardiovascular system work more efficiently. And as your heart and lung health improve, you will have more energy to complete daily tasks.
How can we help?
Our youth athletics program offers three athletic seasons with basketball in the winter, baseball and softball in spring, and football, cheerleading, soccer, baseball and softball in fall. For adults, we offer basketball, softball, volleyball, and flag football in open leagues, industrial, church and senior leagues.
The City of Augusta also operates several aquatic facilities, tennis facilities, outdoor courts and fields for basketball, baseball, softball, pickleball, a golf course, and offers many activities and wellness programs in community centers.
Swimming
When you swim, you strengthen all muscle groups, especially if you vary your swimming styles: Breaststroke especially trains the chest, shoulder, arm and leg muscles. When crawling, most of the strength comes from the arms; you also train your shoulders and core. When swimming backstroke, the core and back muscles benefit in particular. Tennis
Tennis increases your fitness level: Of course, one hour on the court can also be used for more chatting than exercising. But if you so choose, you can burn over 1,000 calories in a single. Even in an intensive session with one of our instructors, 700 to 900 calories easily disappear. Lots of sprints, long rallies and punching movements get your pulse racing. The cardiovascular system is strengthened, plenty of fresh air and vitamin D for our immune system do the rest. You are guaranteed to forget everyday life and just focus on the yellow ball. Whether you are looking for a free outdoor court to play a match with friends, need some instruction or want to register your child for tennis lessons, we may have the right format for you.
Golf
The Augusta Municipal Golf Course is under the management of Cypress Golf Management, LLC since 2014. Together with Cypress, the City of Augusta is continuously working on improving the course. The golf course has a proud, storied past and many traditions that surround this course. It’s a great place to play golf at an affordable price. Learn more at the golf course’s website.
Athletics
The City of Augusta offers a vibrant youth and adult athletic program throughout the seasons. Our goal is to offer children and adolescents a safe environment to learn about the different sports, experience team building and healthy social interactions and form valuable bonds with their peers. We also strive to provide adults an opportunity to follow their passion and participate in one of our athletic leagues for a healthy lifestyle, comradery, and fun.
