SPLOST for Public Safety

SPLOST funds have been used to fund many Public Safety projects since the inception of the program. These funds have been used primarily to build new facilities to house, train, and transport public safety personnel and resources. The project list below and the included projects are not all inclusive, but they illustrate graphically the impact that SPLOST has had on Augusta's local public safety presence.

The fire engines (#15, #16, and #19) that were purchased in SPLOST IV in 2004 cost $310,000 each. Aerial trucks, which are required to fight fires on multi-story buildings, are also expensive. The two Pierce 105-ft, heavy-duty, all-wheel steer aerial apparatus purchased under SPLOST IV cost $650,000 each in 2004.
