The Augusta Judicial Circuit Office of the Public Defender

GPDC is proud to announce the appointment of Mr. Rahmaan Bowick as the Augusta Circuit Public Defender. 

Mr. Bowick first joined GPDC in 2008 serving as an Assistant Public Defender. He has also served in different roles in Richmond County Juvenile Court and the Richmond school system. He is a graduate of Georgia Southern University and the Walter F. George School of Law at Mercer University.

We look forward to all that Mr. Bowick will accomplish on behalf of the Augusta Circuit and its indigent defendants during his term.

Mission Statement

The Augusta Judicial Circuit Office of the Public Defender is responsible for ensuring that adequate and effective legal representation is provided, independently of political consideration or private interests, to indigent persons who are entitled to representation. The legal representation is consistent with the guarantees of the Constitution of the State of Georgia, the Constitution of the United States, and the mandates of the Indigent Defense Act of 2003. The Augusta Judicial Circuit Office of the Public Defender provides such legal services in a cost efficient manner and conducts representation in such a way that the criminal justice system operates effectively to achieve justice.

We accept applications for cases in the Superior and State Courts of Burke County and the Superior, State, and Magistrate Court of Richmond County for criminal and traffic matters.
