The Tree City USA Program has been greening up cities and towns across America since 1976. It is a nationwide program that provides the framework necessary for communities to manage and expand their public trees. Currently, more than 3,400 communities participate in this program nation-wide.
The City of Augusta has been a Tree City USA Community for 25 years, re-establishing this designation in 2016 after a three-year hiatus. The Recreation and Parks Department now manages this process each year, in conjunction with the Augusta Tree Commission. Other partners include the City of Augusta Engineering Department, and Trees for Augusta. (a volunteer based group)
