Mayor's Film Office
The Mayor's Film Office has one goal: to attract the film and video industries to Augusta by providing aid and assistance to filmmakers.
The primary responsibility of the Mayor's Film Office is to attract film and video production that will result in a positive economic benefit through employment of local workers as crew members, actors and extras, and through the use of goods and services, such as hotels, lumber yards and equipment rentals.
Film production is also known to have a positive effect on attracting visitors. Movies shot in particular locations are in themselves "soft-sell" vehicles that can, in turn, promote tourism and future industry development.
Effective July 1, 2002: House Bill 610 grants an exemption from state sales and use taxes for certain digital broadcast and film production equipment and services. The exemption is applicable when some or all of a production is filmed in Georgia . Tax exemptions for lodging are also available with certain limitations.
The Mayor's Film Office provides the following services:
Photographic Library - color prints of locations throughout the city and the ability to transmit them to producers immediately.
Location Scouting - developing itineraries and escorting producers to potential locations for filming.
Liaison -serves as the link to city and state governments to ensure cooperation at all levels.
Pre-Production - assist in securing office space, housing, transportation, catering, etc. and assist with meetings with labor organizations, as well as acquiring licenses and permits.
Production -provide assistance for special needs that come up during production and handle any troubleshooting.
