Testing For Quality

We are pleased to report that the water supplied by the Augusta Utilities Department met or exceeded all U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Georgia Environmental Protection Division (EPD) water standards. All of our water treatment plants are constantly monitored for constituents in your drinking water according to federal and State laws.

Tests are conducted locally and by the State and more than 56,000 individuals tests are run each year. In addition to these tests, the Augusta Utilities participated in a major testing program known as the Information Collection Rule (ICR).

ICR

The ICR is intended to provide EPA information about chemical by-products of disinfection, plus information about disease-causing pathogens (microorganisms). This data is available at the EPA website.

Higher Risk Population
Some people may be more vulnerable to contaminants in drinking water than the general population. Immuno-compromised persons such as persons with cancer undergoing chemotherapy, persons who have undergone organ transplants, people with HIV / AIDS or other immune system disorders, some elderly persons and infants-can be particularly at risk from infections.

These people should seek advice about drinking water from their health care providers. U.S. EPA and Centers for Disease Control guidelines on the appropriate means to lessen risk of infection by Cryptosposridium are available from the EPA's Safe Drinking Water Hotline at (800) 426-4791.
