The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office Training Center (RCSOTC) is a 500-acre facility located on US Hwy 1 in Augusta-Richmond County, Georgia. In 1987, Retired Sheriff Charles Webster and Captain Ray Myers created the idea of the Training Center and began the progressive development.
The primary purpose of the site is to give deputies of the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office and other agency's the highest quality of law enforcement training available. The training center conducts or hosts training courses 50 weeks a year. In-Service training is available 12 months a year, broken down into 13 four-hour classes. The RCSO training division is under the direct supervision of Captain Ray Myers, (706) 592-5001. His staff includes 8 members with a combined total of 143 years of law enforcement experience.
The facility is equipped with an (EVOC) Track in which the department conducts both basic and advance EVOC classes throughout the year. The track was constructed in 1990 from money provided from the Richmond County Risk Management Department and the Sheriff’s office. Law enforcement, fire, and emergency medical personnel have all been trained at the facility.
A live fire is also located at the facility along with pistol, shotgun, and anti-assault carbine ranges. The tire house was the first of its kind to be built in Georgia. Over 9,000 tires make up the 5 room, 4,500 square foot house. A catwalk is in place for a "bird’s eye view" for instructors. The house is used for basic building search techniques to advance SWAT operations. The house is used frequently by Law Enforcement personnel from Academy Cadets to Federal and Military SWAT/SRT teams.
Numerous other advance-training courses are available. For information on training please contact Deputy David James at (706) 592-6560, or email your comments or questions to Richmond County Sheriff's Office Training Center.
