The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office continually searches for imaginative,

Tuesday and Thursday's only for current and future vacancies.

In addition, the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office provides all basic
equipment including uniforms, body armor, weapon, web gear and a take home
vehicle within policy guidelines.
Vacation & Holiday Leave
County employees earn 10 paid holidays per year.
The vacation for shift employees will be taken on the 1st of each month
or the 16th of each month. Vacation time earned is based upon years service
with the county.
Sick Leave
Sick leave is earned at the rate of 1 day per month. You may accumulate
a maximum of 132 days of sick leave. Supervisors routinely assess employee
sick leave usage.
Military Leave
If you are member of a National Guard or military reserve unit, you are
permitted up to 18 paid days of military leave per year.
Salaries
- Starting salary for deputy jailer is $1101.88 bi-weekly ($28,648.88 Annual)
- Salary
increases to $1,153.12 bi-weekly ($29,981.12 Annual) after completion
of the Basic Jailer Course.
Georgia P.O.S.T. Certified Officer’s
- Starting salary $1,206.96 bi-weekly ($31,380.96 Annual)
- Salary increases
to $1,263.45 bi-weekly ($32,849.70 Annual) after one year
- Salary increases
to $1,322.78 bi-weekly ($34,392.28 Annual) after two years
Richmond County Sheriff’s Office Information for Applicants
Pursuing A Position of Deputy Sheriff/Jailer
- Any person seeking employment shall:
- Be at least 21 years of age.
- Be a citizen of the United States.
- Have a High School Diploma or its recognized equivalent.
- Not have been convicted by any state or by the Federal Government of
any crime, for which the punishment could have been imprisonment in the
Federal or State prison or institution; nor have been convicted of sufficient
misdemeanors to establish a pattern of disregard for the law, provided
that, for purposes of this paragraph, violations of traffic laws and
other offenses involving the operation of motor vehicles, when the applicant
has received a pardon, shall not be considered.
- Be fingerprinted and a search made of local, state and national fingerprint
files to disclose any criminal record.
- Possess good moral character as determined by department investigation.
- Be found, after examination by licensed physician or surgeon, to be
free from any physical, conditional, or mental conditions, which might
adversely affect his exercising the powers and duties of a Peace Officer.
- Have an oral interview to determine the applicant’s appearance,
background, and ability to communicate.
- Applications must be filled out in its entirety. They must be accompanied
by COPIES (no originals) of the following documents:
- DD214 (if applicable)
- High School Diploma or GED Certificate
- Birth Certificate
- Social Security Card
- Valid Driver’s License
- Copies of any other documents you so desire
- Criminal history and driving records are checked, selected
applicants are then scheduled for an interview.
After these procedures, if you are considered
as a candidate for employment, you will be notified to take an Entrance
Examination.
- Applicants achieving a passing score will be placed on an eligibility
list. Applicants will be chosen to fill positions as they become available.
- Applicants chosen from the eligibility list to further the hiring process
will be notified to be present for an interview with one or more ranking
supervisors with the Sheriff’s Department.
- Applicants chosen from interviews will then be required to take a polygraph
test.
- A Background Investigation will be conducted.
- Applicants successfully completing all of the previous procedures will
then be offered a position with the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.
The applicant will then be required to take a physical examination and
drug screen.
Training
Initial training consists of a 10-week state mandate academy. Most candidates
will attend the C.S.R.A . Police Academy, located in Blythe GA. However,
other academies around the state of Georgia may also be used.
Upon completion of the academy, you will receive an additional 2 weeks of
training at R.C.S.O. Training Center.
- Your training will continue during your first assignment at one of the
Two Unformed Precincts. Here you will be assigned to a certified Field
Training Officer for your "hands on" training, which will last
about 12 weeks.
- Once you have completed field training, you will begin working solo.
However, your training will continue through evaluations and follow-up
training.
- The probationary period is for the first 12 months of employment with
the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.
