The Recreation & Parks Department operates, sponsors and hosts several Special Interest Locations and Events throughout Richmond County. Below is a list of these, who to contact and where the attraction/event will be held. The majority of these events come with no fees and no prior registration. Upcoming Special Events

February 11th Senior Adult Valentines’ Ball
Julian Smith Casino 6:00pm – 8:00pm

This annual event is held every year at the Julian Smith Casino located at 2200 Broad Street overlooking beautiful Lake Olmstead. Come in your best dress, suit and dancing shoes for a formal gathering where you dance the night away! Escorts and dance partners will be provide just in case you don’t have a special Valentine of your very own! This event is free to the public and is co-sponsored by Ft. Gordon. March 19th Richmond County Special Olympics
Westside High School 10:00am

The Richmond County Board of Education and Augusta Recreation Department proudly offers this annual sporting event for individuals enrolled in Richmond County and surround area schools. Competitors of all ages come out on this day to show off their physical talent and unparallel sportsmanship as they compete for gold! For more information on this event, please call 706-821-1754.

March 20th Community Easter Egg Hunt
Augusta Common 11:00am

The Community Easter Egg Hunt has become a tradition at the Recreation and Parks Department. This program offers children from infant to 10 years old the opportunity to engage in several activities that will kick off their Easter excitement. We do ask that children are there at least 20 minutes prior to start time to fill out a brief registration form. The fee for this program is $2.00 per child. May 23rd Community Block Party
Turpin St. & MLK 3:00pm - 7:00pm

This event is held every year to kick off the start of summer vacations. Held on the last day of school every year, this program has become a city wide event! With giveaways, food, remote shows for local radio stations and much more, the Community Block Party has become the party to put on your calendar for the year! May 27th Golden Olympics
Julian Smith Casino Park 9:00am - 2:00pm

Pre-Registration is required for this event with no fee applicable. Registration forms can be picked up from any of our Senior Nutrition & Program Sites. All entrants are allowed three events for their chance at a gold medal. Please call 706-796-5025 for more information.

June 14th Tyke’s Fishing Rodeo
Diamond Lakes Regional Park 9:00am

Formally known as the Mayor’s Fishing Rodeo which was held at the Mayor’s Fishing hole, this event has been an attraction that children look forward to all year! The Fishing Rodeo is split into age groups to ensure everyone has a shot of being the best “Fisherman”. Each registered participant receives a free t-shirt and a shot at some great prizes. On site registration is required and all participants must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. This event is for children ranging in age of 3-17 years. All children 16+ years of age must have a current GDNR Fishing License. Each participant is responsible for bring his/her own bait, tackle and rods. Fee: $1.00 per child. TBA National Trails Fest Ride
Lock & Dam 7am

Want to discuss adventure? Join this annual Bicycling Event for a scenic route of Augusta. Beginning at the Lock and Dam Park (Behind Bush Field Airport) traveling path and road to the Savannah Rapids Pavilion and back, The National Trails Fest Ride is an opportunity to spend a Sunday morning with your family and friends as you discover the real Augusta! Pre-Registration is required at Andy Jordan’s Bicycle Shop located on 13th Street Downtown until Saturday, June 23rd at 5:00p.m. The Pre-Registration fee is $15 and onsite $25. All ages are invited! September 26th Small Fry Olympics
Augusta Common 10:00am - 1:00pm

For children in grades Pre-K – 1st we offer this program as a fun way for kids to enjoy new things and just play! Pre Registration is required for each registrant and forms are sent to all schools, daycares, and past participants. This program is opened to the public. Fee: $2.00 per child. Games, rides, and lunch will be provided for every participant sign up! Lunches will be available for purchase for parents and chaperones (only 2 teacher lunches per class are provided). October 23rd Time to Scare Halloween Carnival
Bernie Ward Comm. Center 6:00pm - 8:00pm

WRDW Channel 12, Clear Channel Radio, and The Augusta Recreation and Parks Department team up each year for this annual event in those in the CSRA. This event is free for children 12 and under. A haunted house and game carnival will keep your ghosts and goblins entertained the whole time! Come dressed in your best Halloween costumes and enter to win the Costume Contest during the event. November 25th Senior Adult Thanksgiving Lunch

The Augusta Recreation and Parks Department hosts this annual event every year for the Senior Citizens of Augusta. With great food, fellowship and speakers, this event has become a highlight for many within the community. For more information, please call 706-821-1754.

Augusta Skate Park

Located across from the Augusta Aquatics Center, the Augusta Skate park features an exciting variety of ramps including a half pipe, quarter pipe kids ramp, vertical rams, and fun box. Remote Control Race Track

Augusta BMX Track

Located at Wood Street Park, the Augusta Bicycle Motor Cross (BMX) Track is home to the BMX Club of Augusta. The Track is open to the public for general use. Proper safety equipment is required and all rules and polices of the track must be followed. Ride at your own risk.

The Augusta Flyers Track Club, Inc. (AFTC) is a member of the USA Track and Field and Amateur Athletic Union. Since its inception, the AFTC has seen approximately thirty of it’s members receive scholarships to Division I colleges.
