Dick Hatfield

Facility Manager : Richard Hatfield

Dick has been the Manager and Director of Tennis at Newman Tennis Center since 1990 when he was hired to run the facility and coach the AC (now ASU) Women's Tennis Team. Dick started his tennis coaching career at Orange Park High School in Orange Park, FL in 1973 and continued until 1978, compiling a record of 49-16 with 3 conference championships. Leaving the school system in 1978 he started his career as a tennis professional. Dick has been a USPTA and USPTR tennis professional since 1979 has coached juniors at the district, sectional and national level while working in Florida, New Hampshire, and Georgia. He retired as ASU's Men's and Women's coach in 1998 with the Women's teams in 1996 and '97, and Men's teams in 1996, '97, and '98 being ranked in the NCAA Division II National Top 20.

Director of Tennis: David Robinson

David has over 15 years of experience in the tennis industry. He began his tennis career in New Hampshire, where he coached high school and college tennis teams. In 1993, David began working at Newman Tennis Center (NTC) and developed the beginner entry level tennis program (USA 123). In 1996, David accepted the position of Head Pro at West Lake Tennis Club, where he worked extensively with USTA teams leading them to championship level! In 1998, David returned to NTC as Director of Tennis, with responsibilities ranging from coordinating all local and state tournaments to working and traveling with championship teams. David is certified with USPTA/USPTR and USRSA.

Head Professional: Jim Irish

Jim Irish has been a tennis pro since 1999. Prior to teaching tennis, Jim worked in sports journalism as a writer and editor for two daily newspapers in Texas for 18 years. He graduated in 2000 from the two-year Tennis Technology program at Tyler Junior College in Tyler, Texas. He then worked for two years as an assistant pro at Willow Brook Country Club in Tyler. He and his family moved to Augusta, Georgia in 2001 to take a position at West Lake Country Club. In 2005, he transferred to Newman Tennis Center. He is certified with the USPTA. Jim enjoys working with all students, young and old, who are eager to improve his/her skills.
