The Fire Prevention Bureau is responsible for providing inspection services to the city of Augusta . These services include:
Code Enforcement/Plan Review/Fire Investigations/Fire Safety Education
Code Enforcement
The Fire Prevention Bureau enforces applicable provisions of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), Life Safety Code, International Fire Code, International Building Code, and the city of Augusta Code of Ordinances for the public.
The Bureau conducts annual fire inspections on commercial buildings to assure the building meet all requirements of national, state, and local codes.
Plan Review
The Bureau also reviews all new and existing building plans for construction services. All plans are examine to assure that they meet all requirements of national, state, and local code. Once the plans are reviewed and the construction site is inspected, fire system tested and approved, a certificate of occupancy is issued.
Fire Investigation
The Fire Investigator handles all investigations of suspicious and arson fires within the city of Augusta .

The primary responsibilities of the fire investigator are to determine the origin and cause of a fire scene set forth in NFPA 921.
Fire Safety Education
The Fire Safety Education provides safety information and education programs in a variety of areas to include: exit drills, smoke detectors, fire facts, fire safety house, and much more.
