County Engineering Section is charged with administrating the following items:
Soil Erosion and Sedimentation Control
Description of Duties:
This sub-section is responsible for enforcing Augusta’s Soil Erosion and Sediment Control Ordinance. Augusta’s enforcement of this Ordinance is consistent with Georgia’s Soil and Water Conservation Commission’s "Manual for Erosion and Sediment Control in Georgia". This office is also available to provide technical expertise to educate and promote the implementation of Best Management Practices (BMP’s).

Description of Duties:
This sub-section conducts inspections of private site developments for compliance with applicable Augusta Standards and Specifications. The private site developments are inspected for general compliance with the approved site plan, but the verification of development completeness is the responsible of the owner. An owner certification is required for all site developments, and the Certificate of Occupancy for facilities located on developed land shall not be issued until this certification is obtained by the Department of License and Inspection. (Call License and Inspection at (706) 796-5050 for more information.) All workmanship and materials within Augusta right of way shall meet applicable Augusta Standards and Specifications.

Description of Duties:
This sub-section inspects the construction of subdivision developments that will be deeded to Augusta, Georgia, and they shall be constructed in accordance with applicable Augusta Standards and Specifications. These developments are inspected more thoroughly than private developments with the emphasis being placed on the anticipated dedication of the development to Augusta, Georgia. Description of Duties:
This office is responsible for reviewing site plans for the Department of Public Works and Engineering, which are submitted to the Planning and Zoning Commission . Site plans are reviewed in accordance with the "Site Plan Regulations", and the associated checklist can be found by clicking here, . The Subdivision plans are reviewed in accordance with the "Land Subdivision Regulations". The Planning and Zoning Commission routes the submitted plans to this office for review, and review comments from this office are routed back to the Planning and Zoning Commission.
Description of Duties:
This sub-section enforces the "Rights of Way Encroachments Guidelines", which pertains to any encroachment within Augusta right of way. The requirements for the permit is outlined in the "Rights of Way Encroachments Guidelines" The associated Municipal Codes for these guidelines can be found in Title 7, Article 4, Chapter 3, Article 3- Excavations and Article 4- Use of County Rights of Way.
