Master Plan
Diamond Lakes Regional Park – Community Center/Library Development Phase
LOCATION
4335 Windsor Spring Road, @ five (5) miles south of
I-520 on Windsor Spring Road.
DESCRIPTION
Stretching nearly 300 acres, the initial phase of development was completed and officially dedicated in November of 1999. Elements of the initial phase of development include a five field softball complex, a five field baseball complex with concession, scoring and restroom towers at each complex. In addition, lighted park entrance and parking lots were also constructed during the first phase. Current development underway consists of a joint community center/library. This building phase is cooperative effort between the Recreation and Parks Department and the East Central Regional Library.
TIMELINE
The community center/library is estimated to be complete and open in the summer of 2005.
SNAPSHOT
The total build out of this park is currently unscheduled. The cost to implement the future elements of the park is estimated at $27,000,000. Included in this would be a tennis center, golf course, bike and jogging track and picnic and camping areas. The plans also call for a secondary entrance, practice soccer/football complex, a youth/women softball complex, restoration of the existing ponds and two additional building expansions to the community center under construction.
BIOGRAPHY
The original park site was part of the former Augusta International Speedway. The land purchased by the City of Augusta then became known as the future site of the South Augusta Sports Complex. In 1999, a contest was held among the elementary schools in Richmond County. As a result of this contest was born the name “Diamond Lakes”.
