Augusta, Georgia, located in the east central section of the state, is approximately 150 miles east of Atlanta on Interstate 20. The Savannah River serves as the boundary between Augusta and Aiken County, South Carolina.
The Augusta-Aiken MSA is the second largest metropolitan area in the state. Between 1990 - 2000, the Augusta-Aiken MSA stood second in rate of growth among Georgia's MSAs, posting a 14.3% population increase.

Augusta Mall – Located off Interstate-520, ranks as one of the largest malls in Georgia outside of the Atlanta area. Augusta Mall is only super-regional center for a 75-mile radius making Augusta Mall the shopping destination for residents of a two-state, 21-county trade area.

Augusta Exchange Shopping Center – Located at Interstate-20 and Interstate–520, the Augusta Exchange Shopping Center is home to such mainstays as Target, Circuit City, Best Buy, Office Depot, David’s Bridal, Bed, Bath & Beyond, Old Navy, Rack Room Shoes, Sports Authority, Goody's and Borders Books & Music.

Washington Road — Off Interstate-20 is another easy high traffic count location for retail that currently includes: Steinmart, Books-A-Million, Dillard's, Outback Steakhouse, Famous Dave’s BBQ, Carrabba’s Italian Grill and the Augusta National Golf Club.

Downtown Augusta – along the Augusta Riverwalk and nestled among many of the city’s top tourist destinations are many boutiques and art galleries. Revitalization of downtown includes the recent addition of business offices for the Richmond County School Board and over 300 residential units. Downtown established businesses include City Hall, Judicial Center, Wachovia, Suntrust, Morris Communications, Augusta Riverfront Convention Center, Radisson and Country Suites Hotels.
