AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta Finance Department has received the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for its 2016 comprehensive annual financial report (CAFR) from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA). The honor is the highest form of recognition awarded by the GFOA in the area of government accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment.
“This honor commends the knowledge, skill and commitment of our city’s financial staff,” said Finance Director Donna Williams. “In order to receive the certificate of achievement, a government must publish an easily readable and efficiently organized CAFR, and by receiving this award their outstanding efforts are being recognized.”
“This is the second consecutive year that our financial team has earned this achievement,” said Augusta Administrator Janice Allen Jackson. “Receipt of this award is one of several building blocks in our quest to upgrade our bond rating, and is part of our long-term plan. I am truly pleased we have reached this milestone.”
According to the GFOA, Augusta’s financial report was judged as meeting the high standards of the program, including the demonstration of a construction “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate the city’s financial story.
