Evett Davis, wife of Mayor Hardie Davis, Jr., announces a local Power Lunch initiative to pair business and community leaders with Richmond County Elementary School students as “reading mentors.” Power Lunch is a program that has been successfully implemented in schools throughout the country to promote early literacy and improve literacy rates in elementary school students. In the Power Lunch Program, a professional adult (Reading Mentor) is paired with an elementary school student to read together. The Reading Mentor meets with the student weekly at the student’s school during the student’s lunch hour. Books are provided.
