Absentee Ballot Information
Absentee ballots for the December 2, 2008 General Runoff Election will be available beginning Tuesday, November 19, 2008 for all eligible voters. No absentee ballots will be issued or cast on the Monday preceding the date of the election (Monday, December 1, 2008). For more information call (706) 821-2340.
In person absentee ballots: To be eligible to cast an absentee ballot in person in the Board of Elections Office individuals must be registered to vote and must complete an application for their absentee ballot. No reason is necessary when requesting a ballot in person, however voters must provide one of the 6 forms of photo identification required under Georgia law. Citizens unable to provide one of the 6 forms of photo identification required for in person voting under Georgia law will be required to cast a Provisional Ballot. The voter will then have 48 hours from the day of the Election to provide ID in order for their ballot to be counted. If they do not provide the proper ID in the allotted time period, the ballot will be rejected and the voter will be notified. The Board of Elections Office hours are from 8:30 AM until 5:00 PM Monday through Friday. In person absentee ballots may be cast beginning Friday, November 14 through Friday, November 21, 2008.
Absentee ballots through the mail: Absentee ballots issued through the mail will be available beginning Tuesday, November 18, 2008 through Wednesday, November 26, 2008. Any eligible voter requesting an absentee ballot through the mail must submit a request in writing to the Board of Elections Office. The application must state the voter’s name, address, date of birth, and the date of the election for which the voter is requesting a ballot and the voter’s signature. No reason is necessary when requesting a ballot be mailed. The application may either be mailed to the Board of Elections Office at 530 Greene Street, Room 104, Augusta, Georgia, 30901, or faxed to (706) 821-2814. To ensure that you have time to receive your ballot and return it by Election Day, we recommend you make your request as early as possible.
Advance Voting Week: Advance Voting will be available beginning Monday, November 24, 2008 through Wednesday, November 26, 2008 at the Board of Elections Office located at 530 Greene Street, Room 104, the Henry Brigham Community Center 2456 Golden Camp Road and the Warren Road Community Center 300 Warren Road. All voters voting during the week of Advance Voting must provide one of the 6 forms of photo identification required under Georgia law. Citizens unable to provide one of the 6 forms of identification are required to cast a Provisional Ballot. The voter will then have 48 hours from the day of the Election to provide ID in order for their ballot to be counted. If they do not provide the proper ID in the allotted time period, the ballot will be rejected and the voter will be notified. The hours for Advance Voting will be from 8:30 AM until 6:00 PM daily during the period of time set for Advance Voting.
